Legalities

Getting married in South Dakota is simple!

Both of you need to be present and you need to bring your driver's license to any South Dakota Court House. Most are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, but you should plan to arrive early to fill out paperwork.

The license cost is $40 cash. You will not need to take a blood test. The license is only valid for 20 days. You will need to have two witnesses (I can provide them if needed, but please let me know in advance.)

Bring your license to the ceremony and I will complete it and get the signatures required. I can take it back to the Court House for filing, or you can take it back yourself. There is a fee of approximately $10 paid to the Court House for filing to receive your marriage certificate immediately. The license must be filed within 10 days of the ceremony.

Canyon Lake Park: Located on the west side of Rapid City, the backdrop is lovely for an outdoor wedding. Afraid of an afternoon shower? There's a gazebo as well.	Canyon Lake Receptions: Looking for the easy access of Canyon Lake, but a winter wedding? Canyon Lake Receptions is ready and waiting for you.	Your own backyard or mine: Personalize your wedding! After all, it's your special day.
Old Governor's Mansion: Located near Rapid Valley, ready for weddings and receptions. There are even rooms for the bride and groom to stay over night if they wish.	Storybook Island: For the kid in all of us, or for a wedding that includes the kids. This is one of Rapid City’s most popular attractions and justifiably so because of its innovative concept, high quality sets and outstanding maintenance.	Stagebarn Canyon: A beautiful setting for both weddings and receptions.
	Spearfish Canyon: Beautiful any time of the year, Spearfish Canyon is known throughout the hills for it's fall colors.
